Day Twenty Three: What stereotypes are put on trans people

There are loads of them – almost none of them good.  Trans people are freaks, mentally ill, or are turned into some sexual and erotic fantasy.  Trans people don’t have family or friends to support them, and inevitably end up lonely and/or homeless.  Trans people will never be the gender they say they are.  All trans people physically transition, and in fact, you aren’t trans unless you do.  Trans people aren’t the gender they say they are until they’ve had “the surgery”.

But the facts are trans people can be awesome, creative, courageous, honest, intelligent, healthy, and many other great things – trans people aren’t inherently freaks or mentally ill.  Trans people can identify as an array of sexual orientations, just like any other human being .  Trans people can have loads of support from friends, family, faith organizations, schools, workplaces, and communities as whole.  Trans people ARE the gender they identify as.  Trans people all transition at different times and in different capacities – it’s all about their happiness.  And “the surgery” doesn’t exist – there are loads of different surgeries.

Oh, there is also a stereotype that transmen are innately sexy…well, that one is true ;)
